Awareness Through Movement® Classes with Karen Clark
Think of Awareness Through Movement® as Playful Puzzles that help you explore how you can move more comfortably, more freely, and elegantly. The classes offer a process for learning that leads to improved balance, increased comfort and flexibility in your movements, and in your daily life. Scientific research shows that our human brain has the potential to create new neural pathways— lifelong. Moshe Feldenkrais knew this when he wrote some of his first books, such as, The Case of Nora, and Awareness Through Movement. The practice of awareness brings increased clarity to your movements in relation to your environment which can improve balance and coordination throughout yourself. As Moshe Feldenkrais used to say, movement is life!

Notes from Awareness Through Movement Class Participants
"I’ve been having trouble with tendonitis. However, as the lesson progressed, I had no trouble getting my arm to move as close as I wanted; and, when we got over to the right side I noticed my right arm was resting comfortably without any thought on my part!"
"I have arthritic hands and often have trouble using the tip of my right index finger to activate a spray bottle. It was a delight after class when I had no trouble doing that!"
Functional Integration®
Private lessons, called Functional Integration take place on a specially designed table. Using gentle, hands-on, non-force manipulations, I guide your movements in a conversation to clarify the relationships between the bones and joints. As your nervous system calms, the brain then begins to identify alternative and more optimal patterns of movement. It's a way of finding out how you move and discerning which movement options are beneficial for the organization of your entire skeleton.
In my studio I work with singers, instrumentalists, and address back, neck and shoulder pain. Rather than stretching— which usually irritates already stressed muscles— I guide you through a more gentle process to heal and recover mobility.

Karen creates an encouraging and inviting space for participants, allowing each person room to explore and learn the lessons she has thoughtfully created. Her workshops always open my mind, helping me to feel more knowledgeable, more aware, and better prepared. I would highly recommend any workshop or lecture she presents. — Tina Langevin, soprano
