This year marks Karen Clark's TWENTY-FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY as a teacher of the Feldenkrais Method®.
"I totally love the Awareness through Movement Class at Parkpoint Health Club with Karen Clark. This Feldenkreis Method is marvelous. I leave the class totally refreshed and calm, my spine becomes re-aligned, I stand straighter, I feel taller, and I feel like I have just had the most wonderful massage. Learning to become more aware of my body helps me also in my daily life, i,e, walking, doing household chores, etc. I always re-arrange my schedule to be able to attend the Thursday Awareness through Movement Class. I don't want to miss it, as it kind of resets my body. I look forward to that reset. Thank you Karen!" ___ Linda T. Sonoma, CA
Weekly Awareness Through Movement® Classes with Karen Clark
Whether it’s walking, hiking, singing, dancing, swimming, Pilates, or yoga, the Feldenkrais Method® helps you better understand your patterns and habits of movement. In Awareness Through Movement classes with Karen Clark, you’ll learn how to reduce effort, sense more clearly, improve balance, and feel more comfortable and flexible. Most sessions take place lying down on a firm padded surface on the floor. The instructor verbally guides participants in specifically-designed movement patterns to emphasize the relationships of the bones and joints. We know we have a skeleton. But, are we aware of how we use it?
Ukrainian-Israeli physicist Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-1984) drew upon his scientific studies, his Judo practice, psychology, and philosophy when developing his method that is now practiced and taught worldwide. Scientific research shows that our human brain has the potential to create new neural pathways throughout your life. Moshe Feldenkrais knew this when he wrote some of his first books, such as, The Case of Nora, and Awareness Through Movement. The practice of awareness brings increased clarity to your movements which can improve balance and coordination throughout yourself. As Moshe Feldenkrais used to say, movement is life!
Instructor Karen Clark has been a teacher for over 40 years, including vocal instruction in music departments at Princeton and UC Berkeley. Since receiving certification in the Feldenkrais Method® in 1999, Karen has been leading Awareness Through Movement® classes and workshops throughout the Bay Area.

“Feldenkrais is the primary reason I am a member of this gym. My health and well-being are nurtured by slow and attentive...movement qualities difficult to find in most gym settings. Karen’s clear expertise and steady focus make for richly resourced classes that support my own pain management and mental clarity. Thank you for offering Awareness Through Movement at Park Point!” __ MaryKay N. Sonoma, CA

Notes from Awareness Through Movement Class Participants
"I’ve been having trouble with tendonitis. However, as the lesson progressed, I had no trouble getting my arm to move as close as I wanted; and, when we got over to the right side I noticed my right arm was resting comfortably without any thought on my part!"
"I have arthritic hands and often have trouble using the tip of my right index finger to activate a spray bottle. It was a delight after class when I had no trouble doing that!"
Functional Integration®
Private lessons, called Functional Integration take place on a specially designed table. Using gentle, hands-on, non-force manipulations, I guide your movements in a conversation to clarify the relationships between the bones and joints. As your nervous system calms, the brain then begins to identify alternative and more optimal patterns of movement. It's a way of finding out how you move and discerning which movement options are beneficial for the organization of your entire skeleton.
